This is the third and final part of my interview with UK and US based voice actress Jennifer Taylor Lawrence. You may be familiar with her work in the video game Killzone where she plays the role of Shadow Marshal Luger. In addition to her voice acting and on-camera acting accomplishments, Jennifer was kind enough to record the introduction voice-over for this podcast.

As we conclude our interview, Jennifer shares with me her advice for voice actors, especially those who are based in the UK. She also describes in detail how she approached and got accepted by her UK agent. I’m sure this will be enlightening and relevant for any of my listeners who are currently seeking representation.

    ~ Kalyn

  2. KJ says:

As someone who lives in England, I found all three parts of the interview very educational and inspiring.

Thank you both, Crispin and Jennifer.

    • Crispin Freeman says:

That’s wonderful to hear. I want to make sure I’m speaking to my international audience as well as my American one. Thanks for letting me know you appreciated it.

  3. Jon says:

Hi, I was interested in the voice acting tutoring, but I’m a bit of a weird case and I was wondering a couple things. First, I’m really interested in voice acting, but I have social anxiety disorder and I’m pretty nervous around people. I know that sounds like a really bad thing for acting, but I’ve always been into voice acting and I really think I would love the work if I could just break into it(also I’ve been often told I have a distinct voice). Is it possible that I’d be able to learn some ways to combat that nervousness? Also, do you ever allow someone to sign up for a private tutoring before doing a group class? The reason being I think I would be able to overcome that alot easier if I was only worrying about one person hearing me ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Crispin Freeman says:

I’m sure there are many ways to combat nervousness. I try to give some advice on that subject in episode 9 of the podcast, Building Confidence. I’m sure you can find other resources to help you with your nervousness including counseling.

I never allow someone to sign up for a private coaching before my group class. You need to see my acting techniques in action with other people before a private session will be truly productive.

Acting is a collaborative art. You must work with other people in order to accomplish your artistic goals. Consider it your heroic challenge.

  4. Meghan (Meg) says:

Hi Crispin- Amazing interview with Ms Jennifer ๐Ÿ˜€ She did an amazing job and enjoyed her stories. I’m like others, I do have a lot nervous and anxiety problems especially my insecurities of self-image. My biggest accomplishments are taking care of my education, keep learning more about Marketing, be a good entrepreneur after I graduated with my art/designs, and still learning more experiences, including acting/voice acting. On the other hand, I really enjoyed your awesome different accents you made by Vlad from Hellsing OVA, Van Argeno from Blood+ and fearless Sundowner from Metal Gear Rising. Thank you Crispin and Mrs Jennifer for amazing work ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Chris Lowe says:

    Hi Crispin,

I was looking for your opinion on the Avantone CV-12 Condenser Microphone for voice over in home recording studios.

    Thanks,
    Chris

    • Crispin Freeman says:

Unfortunately, I have no opinion on it. I’ve never worked with that microphone so I don’t know what it sounds like.

There are thousands of different microphones out there and I can’t possibly keep track of all of them. That’s why I recommend the industry standard microphones in the Toolbox section of this website.

If you like the sound of the Avantone CV-12 and feel like it suits your voice, then by all means use it.

Once again a lovely interview as always Mr. Freeman. I don’t live in the UK but I love learning about VA & how different places pull it off. Kind of funny, before you started this interview I was just going to ask you who the woman who provided the intro & outro voices for your podcast was, & then you uploaded this so my question got answered already. Thank you & Jennifer.
