This class will help you discover which characters suit your voice the best. If you want to get a competitive edge and increase your chances of booking a voice acting job, you must know how to cast yourself appropriately. Producers and directors will hire you for characters that you can play better than anyone else.

In this workshop, I’ll be working with you to help discover your strengths as a voice actor so you can get your foot in the door at studios! Each actor will be getting very in-depth, personal attention. You’ll be offered a buffet of different characters to choose from. You will audition as those characters, get notes from me and then we’ll repeat until we find your sweet spot. Knowing your character types will give you an incredible competitive advantage when auditioning!

Every student will receive a copy of their work in class as an MP3 file.
Requirements: There are no pre-requisites for the class. Anyone with a desire to learn is welcome!
The class is limited to ONLY 8 people and slots fill up quickly, so sign up today!

So you’ve taken Character Archetype class and discovered which characters suit your voice the best. That’s just the first step! Do you have the skills to play those characters believably enough to get paid for it? Can you compete with established, professional voice actors who have years of experience? Can you carry a character through a scene well enough to keep getting hired? The voice acting world is competitive, and too often actors audition well for a role, only to be fired later because they lack the ability and stamina to play a character believably, scene after scene, episode after episode.

If you take what you’ve discovered in Character Archetype class and learn to apply it in Character Scenes class, you’ll learn what you need not only to book the job, but to keep it. In Character Scenes, I give you the tools and the mindset you need to make a character truly come to life. There is no greater secret to a successful voice acting career than solid acting ability, and as I coach you and a scene partner through scenes from actual animation scripts, you’ll be gaining the experience you need to get work, and to keep working, as a voice actor.

Every student will receive a copy of their work in class as an MP3 file.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why do I need to know my character types?

Everyone thinks they know what characters they’re best at portraying, but in reality, it’s very hard to cast yourself as a voice actor! Think of the characters that I tend to play: *Dark, brooding anti-heroes *Crazy, maniacal villains *Sincere, helpful young heroes *Sarcastic, know-it-all grouches. You would never cast me as the character types above just by looking at me! I’ve learned how best to cast myself in voice acting after years of trial and error. Let me help you discover the characters inside you without taking years to find them! I can help you find the types of roles that best suit your voice. When you know what characters you can believably and competitively play, your chances of getting hired as a voice actor skyrocket! In my Character Archetype class, you’ll be reading for multiple characters using audition scripts from actual animated shows and video games. We’ll tear through as many characters as it takes to find the ones that suit you best!

Why is Character Scenes Class so important?

There are certain aspects of acting including spontaneity, presence and listening that can only be learned with a live scene partner. Since so much of voice acting is done in solitude, it is incredibly important to know what it is like to work with another actor before you are isolated in the recording booth. Practicing on your own is always helpful, but if you’d like to play in the major leagues, you need to know how to act on a world-class level. The best way I know to deepen one’s acting is working on scenes with another actor. In Character Scenes class you’ll be performing with your scene partner, each of you on a separate microphone. I run the class like any on-camera or theater scene study class, except we focus on working only with your voice as an actor! This is where you really get to focus on creating believable moments! Remember, voice acting is like any other type of acting: you need to be believable! So come develop your abilities in this in-depth acting workshop!

Can I attend both Character Archetype and Character Scenes on the same day?

The answer is a resounding, YES! In fact, I highly recommend it! The Character Archetype and Character Scenes classes are designed to work together to give you a complete day-long acting workout! I only split them up to give people more flexibility in terms of their schedule and budgets. Character Archetype will warm you up perfectly to send you into the Character Scenes class ready to apply everything you’ve learned! Strike while the iron is hot, as they say! Once you’ve gotten in the groove in the morning, it’s very satisfying to be able to go straight into long form scenes and really stretch your acting skills in the afternoon!

How do I sign up for both classes?

Can I take the classes more than once?

Absolutely! You are more than welcome to take my classes more than once. In fact, I have many students who take my classes regularly to hone and perfect their skills. Acting takes practice and ongoing study. You can re-take my Character Archetype class to expand your range, and you can re-take my Character Scenes class to deepen your acting ability. I’ll always have new characters and new scenes for you to practice.

Is there a minimum age requirement for your classes?

No, there is no minimum age requirement for any of my classes. My only requirement of my students is a sincere desire to learn and a respectful attitude towards your fellow classmates and myself. All ages are welcome to take my classes.

How can I be the first to know when the next class will be offered?

I can't make it to the class I signed up for. Do you offer refunds?

I do not offer refunds if you cannot attend a class you signed up for. Please be sure of your availability before signing up for classes. I have a limited number of spaces available in each class and I keep my classes small on purpose so I can give the maximum amount of attention to each student. If you don’t show up for class it means you kept someone else from signing up who wanted to be there. If you have an emergency and you absolutely can’t make it to class, please inform me ASAP at classes@voiceactingmastery.com.

I have a question about your classes that wasn't answered in the FAQ.

If you have any other questions about my classes, please feel free to e-mail me at classes@voiceactingmastery.com. I’ll do my best to respond promptly.
