In this workshop, I share with you techniques and tricks I’ve developed over more than a decade voice acting in anime, video games and animation. I teach you how to sound believable while matching the lip flap of a character on the screen, and I help you develop the ears to gauge your own performance against the pros. The class begins with some improvisational acting exercises to warm us up. After the warm-up, we dive into the specific challenges of voice acting to picture or “dubbing” for animation. You will be working on actual anime shows and hearing your performance back in real time. Afterwards, we play back your scene so you can see how your acting fits in with the rest of the professional dub cast. If you’ve ever dreamed of hearing your own voice come out of an anime character, or if you’re looking to gain experience dubbing to picture, this is the class for you!

Requirements: There are no pre-requisites for the class. Anyone with a desire to learn is welcome!

You may take both Anime Level 1 and Level 2 on the same day. In fact, I recommend it. In the Level 1 Workshop, I lay out the entire conceptual framework for voice acting in anime before you get up to the microphone to try it yourself. In the Level 2 Workshop we go straight to the microphone so you can apply what you’ve learned in the morning to longer anime scenes.

Take your anime voice acting to the next level! Designed for those who have taken my Level 1 Workshop, the Level 2 Class assumes that you understand the basics of voice acting, that you have developed your coordination so you can dub to picture, and that you are now ready to apply what you’ve learned at a real world pace. In Level 2, we work on longer scenes so you can develop your acting stamina. It’s one thing to record a line or two well, it’s quite a different task to sound believable during a lengthy scene. Level 2 will help you raise your anime voice acting skills to the professional level!

You must have taken my Level 1 Anime Voice Acting Workshop in order to enroll in my Level 2 Workshop. You may take both classes on the same day. In fact, I recommend it. In the Level 1 Workshop, I lay out the entire conceptual framework for voice acting in anime which you will need in order to keep up with the pace of work in the Level 2 Workshop.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I attend both Anime Level 1 and Anime Level 2 on the same day?

The answer is a resounding, YES! In fact, I highly recommend it! The Anime Level 1 and Anime Level 2 classes are designed to work together to give you a complete day-long acting workout! I only split them up to give people more flexibility in terms of their schedule and budgets. Level 1 will warm you up perfectly to send you into the Level 2 class ready to apply everything you’ve learned! Strike while the iron is hot, as they say! Once you’ve gotten in the groove in the morning, it’s very satisfying to be able to go straight into long form scenes and really stretch your acting skills in the afternoon!

How do I sign up for both classes?

Click on the “Add to Cart” button under “Anime Voice Acting Workshop, Level 1” to add that class to your PayPal shopping cart. Then click on “Continue Shopping” to return to Voice Acting Mastery. Next click on the “Add to Cart” button under “Anime Voice Acting Workshop, Level 2” to add the second class to your PayPal shopping cart. Now you can pay for both classes in one transaction. If I want more practice, can I sign up for Level 2 again?

Of course! Once you’ve taken Level 1, you’re free to sign up for Level 2 as many times as you like to further improve your acting skills! (In fact, some students opt to repeat both Level 1 and Level 2 to get another full day’s workout and really internalize the concepts.) I have many students who like to come back on a regular basis to hone their abilities with me. Acting takes practice and ongoing study. Think of Level 2 as your anime voice acting workout group. I’ll always have new characters and new scenes for you to practice.

If I'm an experienced voice actor, do I really have to take Level 1?

Yes. All of my students must take Level 1 before taking Level 2. Level 1 is where I share my entire conceptual framework so we can develop a common language for talking about anime voice acting. Level 2 is where we go really deep into scenes and characters. Level 2 is nothing but time at the microphone doing as many scenes as possible. If you haven’t taken my Level 1 class, you won’t know the concepts I teach there, so you won’t be able to keep up with the pace of the Level 2 workshop. That’s why it’s so important to take Level 1 before you take Level 2.

Is there a minimum age requirement for your classes?

No, there is no minimum age requirement for any of my classes. My only requirement of my students is a sincere desire to learn and a respectful attitude towards your fellow classmates and myself. All ages are welcome to take my classes.

I can't make it to the class I signed up for. Do you offer refunds?

I do not offer refunds if you cannot attend a class you signed up for. Please be sure of your availability before signing up for classes. I have a limited number of spaces available in each class and I keep my classes small on purpose so I can give the maximum amount of attention to each student. If you don’t show up for class it means you kept someone else from signing up who wanted to be there. If you have an emergency and you absolutely can’t make it to class, please inform me ASAP at classes@voiceactingmastery.com.
